Earth Friendly Beauty

I’m always a little hesitant to try moisturizers that are “one face fits all,” especially when they have shea butter in them.  But since I’ve been successfully using another moisturizer that contains shea butter, I thought it couldn’t hurt to try Ava Anderson’s non toxic moisturizer.

Great call.  This stuff is wonderful.  It moisturized my skin without feeling greasy; in fact, it felt smooth and matte, and it kept the oilies at bay all day long, even in the 80 degree weather we’ve had for the past five days.  The smell is wonderful too.  If you’ve ever smelled Fresh’s lemon sugar line, then you’ll know what this smells like.

Don’t be put off by the price. $19 for moisturizer seems like a lot, but like the cleanser, a small amount will do: in fact, I think I only had to use one pump for my entire face, and the pumps don’t give that much product.  This is another one I will buy for myself.

Ingredients:Water (Aqua), Coco-Caprylate Caprate, Glyceryl Stearate, Coco-Glucoside, Coconut Alcohol, Trehalose, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Sucrose Stearate, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Punica Granatum Seed Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Xanthan Gum.

A few months ago, I blogged about Miss Anderson and my desire to try her skin care line.  About a week ago, a very generous friend of mine sent me her cleanser and moisturizer to try (thanks, Melissa!).  I jumped on it.  These products are some of the most environmentally friendly I’ve seen.

I used the cleanser for five days, and I have to say I love it.  It has the consistency of a creamy gel and little to no fragrance.  The pump doesn’t give much product, so I used between three and five squirts each use, which didn’t use much of the cleanser at all.  This is a lower foaming cleanser than what you’ll be used to using, but it works.  My skin was clean and soft, and even though it’s been in the 80s every day this week (hello, Illinois, it’s APRIL!), my skin never got greasy, even though this is supposed to be a hydrating cleanser.

Don’t get scared by the price of this.  It’s $20 for 3.4 ounces, which only seems like a lot of money until you use the product.  Judging by the miniscule amount of product I used over the past five days, I’m guessing this small bottle will last me a good two or three months.  I would definitely purchase this for myself.
